The "New" Trinitas Academy Opens its Doors After Hard Hurricane Hit

PLANTATION, Florida, March, 2008 - Two years and five months since Hurricane Wilma's damage to its main educational building, the “new” Trinitas Academy emerges once again as a vibrant connection between Providence Baptist Church and its surrounding community.

In the fall of 2005, the north building that housed Trinitas Academy's main educational building and the fellowship hall of Providence Baptist Church, its sponsoring church, was devastated by Hurricane Wilma. This put an end to all educational activities previously held there. Despite the constant rains following the storm and a roofless building, the members of Providence Baptist Church and the staff of Trinitas Academy joined together, embracing the new challenges that were presented to them. The exemplary youth of the church immediately sprang to action, salvaging all that they could, taking the first few steps towards restoration.

The church has been a pillar for the community since it was first founded in 1960. With no plans to relinquish such a historical place in the community, the leadership began a long battle with their insurance company to ensure that they would receive some funds to begin restoring the building. Finally, and after a long, yet hope-filled journey, Pastor Jorge del Pino and the determined members of the church have finally witnessed the completion of the restorations.

Both the school and the church have begun a new chapter in their pivotal role in the city of Plantation. Trinitas Academy has re-opened as a Preschool and Kindergarten with plans to expand to an elementary school (grades 1-5) in the near future, offering quality Christian education in Plantation.

Contributions to assist in the development of the academy are welcome and much appreciated.
